In May, 13 new graduates marched across the stage and on to their careers. Of these 13:
- 11 also received a degree in Chemical Engineering
- 5 graduated summa cum laude (grade point average > 3.75)
- 5 graduated cum laude (grade point average 3.25 - 33.499)
- 3 will be working for pulp and paper manufacturers
- 5 will be working in other industries or for the government
- 1 is going to medical school
- 4 are going to grad school or finishing another degree
The high placement rate overall, in a year with a dismal economic climate, was a testament to the strength and reputation of the PSE degree, as well as the enormous flexibility afforded students by the second degree in Chemical Engineering. In general, most of the students actively seeking jobs in the paper industry received one or more offers. In two cases, job offers in the industry were withdrawn due to economic severity -- both students were able to use their education, professional development, and other strengths to land jobs in other industries.
The higher-than-normal proportion of students going to grad school is not due to the fact that they could not find jobs -- most had one or more offers. These students truly wanted to further their education in engineering and other areas.
For the academic year, the PSE program graduated 20 students.
