Black liquor has always been important to the paper industry, but recent events involving tax credits have caused many companies to want to understand it better. As a result, Dr. Hasan Jameel and graduate student Trevor Treasure have been studying the volume contribution of inorganics in black liquor. They measure the theoretical and actual specific volume of different solutions containing varous inorganic chemicals found in black liquor. The resulting information is being used by a number of paper companies to determine how it might affect the black liquor tax credit.
If you need information on black liquor inorganics, contact Dr. Jameel at hasan_jameel@ncsu.edu
