"Paper Super Scholars" Announced for 2008

Now in its second year, the Paper Super Scholars program is a competitive scholarship program for out-of-state freshman students applying to the Paper Science & Engineering program at NC State. What makes this program remarkable is that the award is a "full ride" -- it pays for all student costs for four years, including tuition and fees, room and board, and other expenses. 5-6 of these scholarship are awarded each year.

This level of award is made possible by special state legislation which grants in-state tuition status to out-of-state students who receive the equivalent of a "full ride." It was designed to maintain the traditional regional nature of the program, in the face of rapidly-rising out-of-state tuition costs.

Finalists are selected based on an application and essay question responses. These finalists then attend a "Finalists Day" at NC State in mid-February, at which they are interviewed by a panel of faculty, alumni, and supporters.

Competition for the awards this year was intense. The qualifications and credentials of the 14 finalists were amazing, and the selection committee had a difficult time selecting 6 recipients. Their photos are shown below.

If you are aware of out-of-state high school students who might be good candidates for this scholarship, please contact the PSE Recruiter, Carrie Hanayik, at carrie_hanayik@ncsu.edu.
